GovCon Q&A
Jul 22, 2025Each week, we highlight a common question from our community of Government Contractors navigating the federal contracting process. These are the real-life challenges our Client Protege's face as they begin reviewing solicitations, preparing quotes, and bidding for the first time.
❓ Real Questions. Practical Solutions.
What If There’s No Freight Address Listed in the Solicitation?
🗣️ This Week’s Question:
“I’m reviewing a solicitation I want to submit a quote for, but there’s no freight address listed. What should I do?”
✅ Answer:
This is a common scenario especially in long-term contracts or IDIQs.
If the solicitation says “Ship to addresses will be identified on individual delivery orders,” that means the exact locations will be provided only after the contract is awarded. These types of contracts often involve shipping to various destinations across the U.S.
📦 Here’s how to quote responsibly in this situation:
-
Use an average freight rate based on shipping within the continental U.S.
- Verify if the contract is Origin or Destination, you may not be required to pay shipping
- Contact freight companies, FedX or UPS for advice on handling nationwide shipping
-
Important: Review past contract awards to see where similar items were shipped
-
Build flexibility into your pricing to absorb reasonable freight variations
This approach helps you stay competitive while protecting your bottom line - even when shipping details are still unknown.
